Pharrell Williams, the artist behind record breaking chartbuster Happy, will be honoured with the Fashion Icon Award at the 2015 CFDA Fashion Awards, due to be held on June 1st, 2015 at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center, New York.

The multi-talented American singer, songwriter, rapper, record producer and fashion designer has been selected for the accolade due to his unique approach to style that has managed to impact popular culture on a global scale.

“If cool was a person, it would be Pharrell, not just for his looks and sense of style but for his kindness and openness. I cannot imagine anyone not seduced by him,” said Diane von Furstenberg, president of CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America), mentioned a blog on the website of the North American designers’ non-profit trade organisation.

Co-sponsored by Swarovski, the key womenswear trophy nominees of this year’s CFDA awards ceremony include New York-based Joseph Altuzarra, Parson’s School grad Marc Jacobs, American sportswear specialist Michael Kors, Proenza Schouler (owned by NYC designer duo Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez), and designer sisters Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen owned label The Row.

This year’s menswear category nominees are designers Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne (founders of brand Public School), Rag and Bones (Marcus Wainwright and David Neville), Thom Browne (two-times winner of CFDA Menswear Designer of the Year title), Belgian-born New York-based designer Tim Coppens, and the American fashion designer and film director Tom Ford.
