The place to be was the INC Lounge at the Time Hotel on West 49th Street Friday evening as Fashion Avenue News Networking and Cover Model event got underway with the sounds of DJ Frank Nitti.  As people arrived they were greeted by the Editor-in-Chief herself, Sofia Davis; “Welcome to the Fashion Avenue News Networking & Cover Model Event.  The excited heighten the moment you walked into the room as a mass of Press/Media/Reporters snapped your photo as you walked the Red Carpet & posed in front of the Step N Repeat.  Each time the glass elevator went down, it came up filled with more people.  This evening was to celebrate SuperModel & Cover Girl Tiffani Renee & American Couture Designer Clarence Black.  The event was hosted by the dapper FAN Managing Editor, Allison Brown.

Cover Model Tiffani Renee looked stunning in the Clarence Black Couture Safety Pin dress as she posed for photos and walked the runway to Bow Down by Beyonce.  Mr. Black, always the sophisticated gentlemen, looked fabulous.

Museum at FIT organizes History of Lingerie exhibition

FIT LINGERIE

A History of Lingerie is organized by Colleen Hill, associate curator The Museum at FIT. A book to accompany the exhibition will be available in fall 2014 from Yale University and will feature over 70 full-color photos of objects featured in the exhibition.

As the final barrier to the nude body, lingerie is simultaneously modest and erotic—and it remains a subject of enduring fascination. The design of lingerie enhances its allure: it strategically reveals, conceals, and highlights the wearer’s form. As French lingerie designer Chantal Thomass observed, “The essence and attitude of lingerie is all in suggestion.”

A History of Lingerie traces developments in intimate apparel from the 18th century to the present. There are two types of lingerie, hard and soft. Hard lingerie includes corsets, bustles, and structured bras, while soft lingerie consists of unstructured garments, such as slips, nightgowns, and panties. As the relationship between dress and the body has been redefined over time, so too have the function and appearance of lingerie.
