Just Cavalli presents Spring/Summer 2013 Fashion Show

Just Cavalli presents Spring/Summer 2013 Fashion Show. The life, the colours and the richness of the sea, combined with the atmosphere and light of the most beautiful Mediterranean coasts, influence the Just Cavalli Spring/Summer 2013 collection.

The rays of summer sunshine filter from the skies reaching the marine depths where light fades until disappearing, leaving in its place a new and diverse form of life, which is intense and astonishing. The Just Cavalli woman floats on the runway dressed in prints which evoke the magnificent colours of the Mediterranean water and vegetation; clothing characterized by young silhouettes and fluid lines.

Transparent chiffon sculpted with slits and prints to create the fluid motion of sea life alternated with knitwear and skinny pants which evoke the translucence of jellyfish; one of the most unique structures in nature.

Short dresses distinguished by fluid silhouettes are covered in sequins shaped by an oxyhydrogen flame and illuminated by a thousand colours and incredible nuances, in order to create a tri-dimensional effect which replicates the iridescent colours of sea urchins.  Bougainvillea flowers and blue majolica motifs decorate shirts, pants and gowns.

Refined shapes and colours which decorate the spotted seashells transform the iconic jaguar print, which has always characterized the Maison Cavalli, in an ingenious reproduction of enticing marine life.

Leather clothing decorated with ton-sur-ton studs and gowns encrusted with rhinestones portray these fabulous sea creatures which live with new and vibrant energy, in a palette of colours ranging from electric blue to acid green, from pink to fuchsia, from pale blue to royal blue with fluorescent touches.

Necklaces and bijoux inspired by the majolicas of the mysterious Atlantis, ankle boots and booties with fluorescent rubber heels like the unreachable creatures which live in the depths of the sea.

Marine inspiration influences the men’s collection as well; where the predominant colours are blue and white.  The jackets are made of transparent organza which unveils the sartorial structure, to be combined with active bermuda shorts  or smoking pyjamas with contrasting prints.

Following an exciting performance from young musicians Bastille, Haizhen Wang was chosen by Christopher Bailey as the overall winner of the award, receiving the coveted 2012 trophy designed by Jessica McCormack.

Speaking about his chosen winner, Christopher Bailey said, “Tonight has been a truly wonderful example of the incredible energy and original creativity flowing through London and Britain at the moment.

I was so honoured to Chair Fashion Fringe in 2012 and to work with the team to help support and unearth the next generation of exciting designers. It is a privilege to work with Colin McDowell, he has always been such an incredible supporter of young British talent and being involved in the selection of the 2012 winner has been an inspirational and humbling experience.

The level of talent and skill showcased not only by this evening’s winner, Haizhen Wang but also finalists Teija Eilola and Vita Gottlieb as well as the entire Fashion Fringe alumni throughout the selection process, has been remarkable.

I am so excited about charting the progress of Haizhen, this is only the start of his journey! His collection showed an incredible level of originality and craftsmanship. The support and nurturing that Fashion Fringe will provide will give Haizhen a strong framework to continue to really grow as a designer.”

Founder and Creative Director of Fashion Fringe, Colin McDowell commented, “I feel that these three designers were remarkably mature and every one of them could have shown on any professional catwalk. I don’t think it was easy for Christopher to choose a winner, but he took his role amazingly seriously. He devoted more time to these three people than any other Chair. I always felt he was just a phone call away and there to offer counsel. That gave us all confidence.”
