Candy Rock Couture is a hand- made custom clothing developed for those who don’t fit in one style, is beyond rockability, punk, emo, skater or harajuku inspired. The brand brings to life a modern version of the fifties pin up girl for a woman who is not shy to wear pink girlish fairy tales themes but still wants to add a tougher urban touch to her style because this girl is not only a eye candy, she is full of character and attitude.

Oistin

No two Mother’s are the alike – Each are Unique – so are the Arthur and Livingston handcrafted accessory line.

Take your accessories from the seashore to the sidewalk with island-inspired jewelry from Arthur and Livingston (www.arthurandlivingston.com). This new line of handcrafted accessories carries inspiration from island nature while featuring contemporary elements that make each piece practical and appropriate for every day wear.

“This collection is the best of both worlds” says Designer and President Nicole Antoinette. “It encompasses the beauty of island life but also contains those unique and bold characteristics that are synonymous with the city.” Island style jewelry has often been limited to tropical vacations and exotic getaways, but Arthur and Livingston is designed to bring the popular fashions of the island seashore and effortlessly incorporate them into the sidewalks of the city.

Highlights from the Spring/Summer debut collection overflow with vibrant colors and gemstones reflective of island nature. Irregular shaped gemstones like coral, mother of pearl, and turquoise give the collection an authentic, earthy vibe.  All pieces are adorned with bold, gold-plated metal chains for contemporary character and comfortable wear. “Each piece is carefully handcrafted with uniquely different stones,” says Antoinette, “no two pieces are exactly the same.”

Nicole Antoinette has a love for all things fashion. Having worked in the fashion industry for over 6 years, Nicole designed this unique accessories line to fuse her two worlds- Island and City. She began designing and crafting jewelry in 2009 as a hobby and has since evolved that love into her debut accessories collection. Arthur and Livingston, named after Nicole’s two Barbadian grandfathers, is influenced both by her Caribbean heritage and city lifestyle.

Arthur and Livingston accessories range from $48-$98 and can be purchased directly at www.arthurandlivingston.com.

Margaret Thatcher’s Perfect Power Dressing Style

courtesy: number10.gov.uk

With her Aquascutum skirt suits, pussybow blouses and a fetish for striking hats, Baroness Margaret Thatcher will always be remembered by the fashion lovers as the world’s pioneer power dresser.

The sad demise of Britain’s first female Prime Minister at the age of 87 brings back the memories of Mrs. Thatcher’s rise in power and how it affected and evolved her prim and proper sense of dressing.

Christened as ‘Iron Lady’ by the Soviet army newspaper Red Star in 1976, the longest serving Prime Minister of Great Britain became a global style icon with her signature dressing style replete with no-fuss strictly professional bespoke attires and minimal sophisticated accessories, befitting her status.

With help from experts like her personal dresser Cynthia Crawford and dress advisor as well as director of the UK-based label Aquascutum, Margaret King, Mrs. Thatcher developed and established her own dressing style reflecting her confident powerful persona, which was later came to be recognized as the quintessential Thatcher look.

Making into the best-dressed list consecutively for three times (1988, 1989 and 1990), Mrs. Thatcher preferred wearing impeccably tailored wool, bouclé, hounds tooth and metallic brocade coats in jewel-tones as well as bold geometric or floral print mid-calf length silk dresses in green, cerise, fuchsia, purple, navy and monochromes.

Andre Leon Talley, Editor-in-Chief of Numero Russia launches his new book “The Little Black Dress”

andrea 2

The fashion pope Andre Leon Talley launched his third book “Little Black Dress “on April 12 and talked to a fashion crowd in NYC this Monday about his inspirations and memories. The book is a tribute to the most popular and iconic piece in the women’s wardrobe. One of the biggest inspirations for the book was his loved grandmother Mrs. Bennie Frances Davis who he describes as a strong, confident and stylish woman. Mrs. Frances was a humble woman, who attended church every Sunday but liked to look her best to the occasion, being picky and meticulous in her decisions. She passed these values to Andre and introduced him to the fashion world by making him select her outfits, going with him to shopping trips to New York and Washington and buying his first luxury item: a pair of yellow pajamas from Christian Dior.

Luxury for Talley can be white sheets drying in open natural air, a gathering with close friends or family or a simple black dress. The concept of luxury can be minimalistic as a black seamless clingy dress. What turns the black dress so desirable and mythical? “Black is a definitive statement, nothing ambiguous like shades of gray. The little black dress allows a woman to become the color, the spirit, the life force “Norma Kamali states in the LBD book.

Coco Chanel created the first LBD in 1927, women all around the world are grateful to her for giving them an outfit that they can feel confident, chic and atemporal. Wearing a little black dress feels dramatic and elegant at the same time. The dress can be classic or outrageous, sensual or conservative it all depends who is the woman wearing it .The absence of color makes the woman the main focus as Audrey Hepburn with her unforgettable black dress on Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Marc Jacobs proved in 2012 in the Met Gala that a black dress is not exclusive for women, he arrived on the red carpet wearing a Comme de Garcon sheer lace dress with white boxers shorts. He embraced and owned the look but only with a fitted body like Marc a man can pull this look, Talley believes. When asked if the unique capes that he wears could be considered a black dress he tells that his capes are inspired by paintings or historical characters and never could be regarded as a dress; But he assumes to have a version of men’s dress (long shirt) that men in Morocco and North Africa use daily and also some kilts that he is promising to bring it out for a special event this year.

The ex editor at large of Vogue America and now at Numero Russia, ultimate mission is to deliver and share with people his knowledge and experience in fashion, especially the stories of the talented people he met who contributed to shape his skills in his beginning as Andy Warhol, Karl Lagerfeld and Diana Vreeland. We hope that Mr. Andre Leon Talley continues to make us famine for beauty!
