Pharrell Williams, the artist behind record breaking chartbuster Happy, will be honoured with the Fashion Icon Award at the 2015 CFDA Fashion Awards, due to be held on June 1st, 2015 at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center, New York.

The multi-talented American singer, songwriter, rapper, record producer and fashion designer has been selected for the accolade due to his unique approach to style that has managed to impact popular culture on a global scale.

“If cool was a person, it would be Pharrell, not just for his looks and sense of style but for his kindness and openness. I cannot imagine anyone not seduced by him,” said Diane von Furstenberg, president of CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America), mentioned a blog on the website of the North American designers’ non-profit trade organisation.

Co-sponsored by Swarovski, the key womenswear trophy nominees of this year’s CFDA awards ceremony include New York-based Joseph Altuzarra, Parson’s School grad Marc Jacobs, American sportswear specialist Michael Kors, Proenza Schouler (owned by NYC designer duo Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez), and designer sisters Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen owned label The Row.

This year’s menswear category nominees are designers Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne (founders of brand Public School), Rag and Bones (Marcus Wainwright and David Neville), Thom Browne (two-times winner of CFDA Menswear Designer of the Year title), Belgian-born New York-based designer Tim Coppens, and the American fashion designer and film director Tom Ford.

Michael Kors and Diane von Fürstenberg, the two leading American fashion designers, are the latest to opt for an off-site venue at the forthcoming February edition of New York Fashion Week (NYFW).

According to WWD, the designers are set to stage their fresh autumn/winter 2014 collections at different venues, other than their usual favourite one in New York’s Lincoln Center, in the upcoming bi-annual event.

Apart from Kors and Fürstenberg, the bridalwear queen Vera Wang and Venezuelan fashion veteran Carolina Herrera will also not feature their collections at the Lincoln Center this year.

In addition to the industry stalwarts’ choice of new venues for their catwalk shows, the coming season of NYFW is undergoing some major changes to make the event less crowded and more cost effective for the designers.

IMG Fashion, the organizer of the event, which had become increasingly crowded and expensive over the last two decades, is revamping the prestigious do by introducing new state-of-the-art venues and a tighter guest list.

To cut down the cost of staging catwalk shows, the firm plans to reduce the rents in some of the spaces at the Lincoln Centre, which this year will feature parades from NYFW regulars like Monique Lhuillier, Tory Burch, Jill Stuart, Lela Rose, Milly, Nanette Lepore, Nicole Miller and BCBG.
