RIHANNA "SETS IT OFF" AT BERGDORFS

It’s every designer’s dream to have their collection be carried at Bergdorf Goodman,” Rihanna proclaimed Tuesday afternoon at a frenzied personal appearance for the retail unveiling of her fall Fenty by Puma collection.

The Barbadian singer was joined by Bergdorf president Joshua Schulman and “homegirl Linda,” senior vice president, fashion office and store presentation Linda Fargo — as a contingent of Rihanna fans swarmed the retailer’s fifth floor, tunes blaring.

The majority of attendees appeared to be students from nearby fashion universities, including the Fashion Institute of Technology and the Parsons School of Design.

While scheduled for 3 p.m., the event didn’t start until nearly two hours past its call time — leaving some attendees with a dilemma.

Ariana, a 20-year-old student at FIT, said she was “debating if I should skip class, I have merchandising math at 5:10.” Spotted an hour later, it appeared that she had.

“I want to get the creepers,” Ariana said of her intentions for staying — noting that the continuously sold-out style is a must-have item amongst the FIT student body. “Before this, no one was buying Puma. [Rihanna] managed to make it big again,” she added.

Aasha, a 19-year-old New School student and intern for Alastair McKimm — who styled the fall Fenty for Puma campaign, already has a pair of creepers. She was in the room to nab one of the collection’s fur hoodies. “I like the collection — it is a mix of edgy and girliness at the same time.”

Whitney Lam, founder of the women’s lifestyle blog Nitrolicious, summed up Fenty’s popularity: “Anything Rihanna touches becomes popular. There is not really women’s streetwear like this produced with a big brand.”

Within 15 minutes of Rihanna’s ribbon-cutting, Bergdorf’s stock of shoes had sold out, as well as much of its apparel.

Schulman in his opening remarks at the event said, “The whole world is talking about ath-leisure, but here at Bergdorf’s we are all about ath-glamour.”

Discussing the decision to welcome Rihanna to Bergdorf’s, Schulman told WWD, “For us, Rihanna is an icon and when we first saw the [Fenty fashion] show Linda Fargo and I were so excited about it because we really felt that our customer would love this. It’s a very sexy, very modern approach to activewear.

C.L.A.S.S. brings innovation values to Arab Fashion Week

Indian Lady Red Make Up

The first Arab fashion week earlier this month in Dubai put the spotlight on the creativity of international fashion designers for their Spring-Summer 2016 collections. The three days between October 31 to November 2 were dedicated to bringing the excellence of international creativity to the capital of the Arab fashion world, according to a press release by C.L.A.S.S. (Creativity Lifestyle and Sustainable Synergy), an international cross-platform and unique network that provides designers, buyers, media and stakeholders with a showcase of fashion, fabrics and exclusive material produced with the smartest and most sustainable technologies.

Three Italian designers hit the runway with their collections: Genny, Laura Mancini and Giada Curti. Among Internationals Designers, Abed Mahfouz, Mireille Dagher and the guest designer Tony Ward.showed the creativity of Lebanon. Others present were Atelier Leonleon and Claes Iversen from Holland, Adelina Rusu from Romania, Rodrigo Otazu and Sylvio Kovacic from New York, Ju Jordy-Fu from London, Selphie Bong from Indonesia, and Alanoud Al Attiya from Qatar.

The Arab Fashion Week was also a stage to discuss the important topics of innovation and sustainability.

With her 20 years of experience in the textile field, and as a pioneer in managing communication for the most innovative and renowned smart textile companies, Giusy Bettoni, founder and CEO of C.L.A.S.S., introduced and moderated the Luxury and Fashion press forum set up to discuss contemporary luxury.

Also participating were the President of the Arab Fashion Council, Jacob Abrian, who introduced and conducted the forum, Cav. Mario Boselli, Caroline Rush, Chief Officer of the British Fashion Council, Desirèe Bollier, CEO of Value Retail and Diego Basso, brand Manager of the AFC

Important topics were discussed, ones that are becoming more and more crucial for the greatest brands in the luxury world, for their entire production chain from industry to designers, and finally to the consumer. At the heart of the debate the key role of information, also about commitment by fashion brands towards new generations concerning creativity, but also ethical, environmental, healthiness values.

This is the intention that pushed C.L.A.S.S. to bring to the Arab world the values that it has been promoting since its foundation, the release said.

ARAB FASHION WEEK.jpg

These values will be at the core of a new project for professionals in the field that will start next year. This upcoming new project will be called C.L.A.S.S. Education, a platform to educate and update on the newest innovations in the textile industry, with a special focus on the newest materials and production techniques, with lessons, interactive workshops, and tours to discover the most interesting brands in the luxury world.

This project is the result of the longtime collaboration between Giusy Bettoni and James Mendolia, professor at the Parsons School of Design in New York. The first among these workshops, Innovative Textile Solutions: Eco-Fashion Workshop, will be held in Milan at the C.L.A.S.S. Headquarters from January 18 to January 20, 2016.

Interview on Personal Body Sculpting

James Collins Expert Interview

What are some tips in making working out actually fun?

Working out should always be fun, but if you find it tough to go to the gym then find things within exercise you enjoy.  For example, if you like sports, start playing. If you prefer classes than being with everyone in a gym then go to a class. The only problem with that is it’s a very general workout and won’t hit the specific areas you need to hit.

One of the main mistakes I see gym goers do is they do the same routine everyday.  This not only gets you nowhere but it’s also very boring.  So for the sake of seeing results and making it more fun, constantly change your routine every couple of weeks.  Even if you do want to put on weight, you need to not just lift heavy weights every week.

FITNESS 3 james-collins

What is the average number of days/week and average minutes/workout women from these different age groups should be working out? Additionally, how should diet change for optimum benefit.

That’s hard to answer because it all depends on what shape your starting point is at any age.  Preferably when you are young you workout hard and achieve the body you want so that the rest of your life you are just maintaining it and not having to work so hard at it.

If this is not the case and you are starting from scratch I would say all age groups should be doing the same number of days I would just change the intensity and time actually spent training because a 60-year-old woman cannot workout in the same intensity as an 18 year old.

Ages 18-24: Very High intensity 50mins 4 days a week

Ages 25-31: Very High Intensity 60mins Ages 32-38: Very High Intensity 60mins Ages 38-44: High Intensity 50mins

Ages 45-51: Medium Intensity 45mins

Ages 52-60: Medium Intensity 35mins  (or what they can mange)

FITNESSjames-collins

Is there a benefit to the “mini” work out? You know, 5-10 minutes of exercise fit in periodically during the day? How about the “mini” more frequent meals often recommended?

The mini workouts are great!  They are often better than many workouts I see people doing in the gym. It has to be very intense though! Put all you have into that 10-15mins.  Usually circuits are best.  Muscle gainers- a circuit like this- is good to throw in if you don’t have time for a full workout.

As for the diet, I don’t recommend the frequent meals diet.  I feel its nonsense and a gimmick.  The most scientifically proven diet that works is the intermittent fast.  For two days of every week live on only 500 calories for women and 600 for men in a 24hour period.  The health benefits are ridiculous and you’ll see weight fall off, in conjunction with working out.  The rest of the week eat what you want, but obviously you should eat healthily.  Just don’t worry about your carbs, don’t let them rule your life.

FITNESS 2james-collins

We’ve all had those days where going to the gym is as exciting as clipping our toe nails, and not all of us can afford a personal trainer to gear us into shape. What are your tips and tricks in keeping ourselves motivated for the gym?

Keeping motivated. That’s a tough one; it really comes from within you. You have to want it. Just think about how you’ll feel after the workout and how you’ll enjoy seeing the results in the mirror.  Or think about your health, and how we all need to look after ourselves.  I do struggle with these days like everyone but something in me just makes me get up and knock out the session. Maybe it’s because I’m being paid for the way I look and I just see those $$ signs. If I don’t workout I don’t live.

What’s the truth about muscle memory? Should a former HS or College athlete return to her sport for the quickest fitness results?

Muscle memory is true. Your body will pick itself up from its slumber very quickly. Think about an athlete who’s been injured for months. They won’t be able to workout much, but once they are better they bounce back as if nothing happened, with a lot of hard work of course. It’s the same for us all, but it’s not memory in your muscles, it’s memories stored in your brain. If you go back to the sport you did at college your body will pick it up very quickly just like the athlete?  But if you are thinking that if you were a sprinter at college you’ll be back in that same shape within a couple of weeks you’re mistaken.  It will take a lot of hard work to get there.  Your body will just remember how to do the movements very well, just maybe not a quickly.

FITNESS james-collins

From your experience working with models, as well as us mere mortals, is there one workout that gives result for everyone?

My favorite workout that I have found works for everybody is circuit training at a high intensity.  No matter your ability level, everyone can do the same exercises and get great results.  You just change the difficulty level depending on the person.  They can give a whole body workout or concentrated on one area.  Plus they are the most fun I’ve found.

What’s the biggest misconception about models and their diets?

That’s easy, it’s that models don’t eat.  Everyone I speak to says that we mustn’t eat to have bodies like this.  But it’s just not true, I know some girls who stuff their faces.  They just work very hard in the gym and eat the right foods.  Male models actually have to eat a lot of food so that they can put on muscle and have these bodies you see.  There’s no big secret.  It’s like any walk of life, you work hard at something you’ll get results.

With the BFC Kajal Eyeliner Pencil in Black, trace your upper lash line generously.

Using the BF Smoke Blender Brush, begin smudging directly over the penciled area and blend.

Apply BFC Carbon Black Eye shadow with a BF 22 Banana Brush to the entire area of your eye right above the crease (not the eyelid) in a half-moon motion.

With the BF 24 Fluff Brush, blend the Carbon Black Eye shadow, keep blending so that it spreads towards the area right above the crease and outer edge of your eye, until you cover the entire area right below the brow bone. Blend some more until color spreads evenly.

To add more nuance to your look, using the BF 19 Blending Blush blend some BFC Silver Greige Eye Shadow all over your eyelid from lash line to the crease.

Using the BFC Kajal Eyeliner Pencil in Black trace a thin line on your lower eyelid.

With BF 06 Small Shader Brush blend and shade the eyeliner on your lower lid.

Use the BFC Eyeliner Cream in Leyl to trace the natural shape of your eye all the way from the inner corner of your eye outwards and finish it off with a thick swipe that points in the direction towards end of your eyebrow.

Brush, fill-in and shape your eyebrows with BFC Eye Brow Pencil.

With BFC Orient Lashes Mascara, apply mascara gently to your lashes. Start from the bottom root and work your way up to the top.

Our Mission:

All Beauty is a lifestyle brand that aims to encourage individuals to think of their beauty and skincare from within – what you put into your body will affect your skin – by creating delicious products that both hydrate and nourish skin.

How we got started?

We started All Beauty with the dream of encouraging people to make the connection between what they put into their bodies and their looks. Camille Varlet, the founder, came up with the idea when she noticed her friends all talking about seeing signs of aging and yet they all were drinking diet soda- they thought water was “boring”, had “no flavor” or was “not refreshing”. She found this to be a disconnect between how people think about their looks and what they put into their bodies. Finding a solution is what inspired her to launch All Beauty Water. She wanted to create a healthy, delicious tasting and 0 calorie alternative to sugary drinks or beverages that are artificially formulated, with added skin benefits (all the ingredients in All Beauty Water have research showing they have various skin health benefits).

Camille Varlet, the founder of All Beauty Water, worked in brand management at Dannon & L’Oreal before starting to develop & launch All Beauty Water. She is half French, half Italian, and moved the US when she was 9.
