MODEL EBONY WALKER IS THE WINNER OF THE FACE OF KURVACIOUS MODEL COMPETITION

File_000 (1)

I had the opportunity to be attend the annual Face of Kurvacious Model Competition at the National Black Theater in Harlem.

What an EVENT!!!

The Face of Kurvacious is produced by Ms. Kurvacious Scott, an icon in the fashion industry.

Let me tell you how it all happened….. First, I arrive, I am greeted and seated, I’m thinking “very nice”.  As judges arrive, they are seated, introduced.  I’m thinking “I like this”.  We are served a beautiful dinner and additional guest are let in…. the show is about to begin.

The two hosts of the show are hysterical and informative, David Ash and Charlotte Rogers-Brown, keep you entertained.  The judges are Andrene Wiliams of UBM Models, Sofia Davis, Editor-in-Chief of Fashion Avenue News and Model World Magazine, Sonja Elise Freeman of Miss NY Plus America, Tasha Hill of BGU Concepts, Janine Y. Ellis NinaJoi Creations and the (Runway Slayer) Supermodel Jeannie Ferguson of BGU Concepts.  WOW, what a line up.

The contestants, all 25, are introduced thru a dance routine that is fabulous, they move and groove to runway pulsating music.  The next scene is to introduce themselves and explain why they should be the next Face of Kurvacious.  The judges listen closely as the crowd goes wild after each contestant.   It’s an intense moment.

In each category the contestants display their elegance and confidence and slay the runway with their own style.

In addition to the fabulous contestants, the Kurvy Dolls take to the runway – what a treat.  The Kurvy Dolls are the Kid Kurvy Models, they have kid designers, Pink Ladybug Couture, Chubbie Line, that made some of the garments.  What a refreshing surprise.  I was so proud to see children having a platform.   Designer Egypt, of Chubbie Line, was featured this month in TEEN VOGUE, as The Ones To Watch, Under 21.   She is on her way.

Some of the celebrities in attendance are the Queen of New Jersey, Ms. Theresa Randolph, Executive Producer of Ms. Full Figured USA Pageant and her beauty queen winner.

The final category is Evening Wear.  The contestants were escorted on the stage by very handsome male models.  The contestants know this is their final opportunity to impress the judges.  They do not disappoint.  Each and every gown and outfit is to die for, it’s very hard to choose.

Now is the time to announce the winner, different awards are given out and each contestant feels like they are a winner.  But there can be only one first place winner, there can be only one Face of Kurvacious.

File_000

The tension grows, and finally a winner is announced, contestant Ebony Walker is the new Face of Kurvacious.

MAISON MARGIELA – MEN DARLING…

fswpa77.08fr

In a postmodern world, masculine fragility need not hide behind closed doors.

The Maison Margiela questions the tropes that define the role of man in today’s society – his uniform, his armour, and the tactile underpinnings of his sartorial wardrobe. When all expectations fall away, what melancholic remnants remain in his age of post-emotional experience?

fswpa77.06fr

Answers abound in the salvaged effects of past lives, when archetypes were once vested with authenticity. Gradations of the two-piece suit reflect process and power, as the proud craft of full-canvas tailoring is rendered decorative by exposed basting stitches (like spontaneous embroidery). Coat shoulders are rounded and soft, trousers fall to a loose cuff, and shirtsleeves flutter in silk poplin. Domestic foulard prints like curtains or tablecloths are illustrated with pastoral scenes and heraldic insignias, re-assembled as new shirting hybrids snapped together with salt-shrunk jersey or chambray cotton. Sepia-toned tweeds and Prince of Wales checks mingle with technical shell tanks and purist knit swimsuits that evoke a lost athletic elegance. Square-toed loafers fold down at the heel, and lace-up boots become a trompe l’oeil sandal.

Produced from found garments of varying sources and periods, ‘Replica’ styles are signified by an external white label, whilst a selection of seven ‘Re-edition’ garments return to the Spring Summer 2017 collection from within the Maison’s archives – designed between 1999-2005.

The rain falls down on last year’s man, an hour has gone by and he has not moved his hand.

The Multifunctional Beach Dress for a Stress Free Holiday

Mumusa 3in1.jpg

The innovative apparel brand Mumusa has just launched a campaign on Indiegogo to fund the production of the most elegant, beautiful and comfortable 3 in 1 beach dress designed so far.

“I‘d been looking for such beach dress for years – something that is beautiful, comfortable, elegant and light to carry and isn’t just a piece of fabric called a beach wrap. A dress that you can look good in both on the beach and having a cocktail at the bar afterwards,” explains Mirjam Sitin, the founder of Mumusa.

Mumusa has all the features you look for in a perfect holiday dress: it dries quickly, does not wrinkle, stays up perfectly, suits with every body type and takes almost no space in your bag. And you can wear it in three different ways to suit the occasion and the mood.

Each dress is handmade using the finest fair trade and sustainably sourced silk chiffon materials.

Mumusa dress was created to solve the problems that many women face when on holiday: the suitcase filled with so many different outfits is heavy and gets messy fast, having to constantly change clothes when going from the beach to the hotel or a cafeteria/bar, getting the clothes wet when put on bikini.

Giving back:

Each one of Mumusa projects contributes to fulfilling most direct ocean cleanup missions. A piece of profit from each dress sold is being forwarded to the most innovative and straight forward ocean cleanup projects, so each person who is buying Mumusa dress contributes directly to cleaning up our oceans.

Mumusa will be available on Indiegogo.com here beginning 18th of July for 45 days. After a successful campaign the first line of dresses will go into production in September.

Check out the campaign and get your own Memusa dress now on presale to be ready for your next holiday.

For more information about the campaign, visit the Mumusa website here.

ST. LUCIA HOT COUTURE FEATURES DESIGNER CLARISCIA GILL – CG COUTURE

CLARISCIA GILL – CG COUTURE

IMG_9242 ed

The renowned designer returns to her roots for the show of a lifetime!

Couturier Clariscia (pronounced Clar-ee-sha) Gill is clearly passionate about her work. Not only does it show in the fine attention to detail displayed in the cut and finish of her designs, it is clearly evidenced by the 15 year strong loyal clientele whom visit her Mayfair based Atelier.

A mixture of men and women from all the five continents which includes musical artists and celebrities.  All are united by their discerning style savvy attraction to Clariscia Gill Couture’s famous three C’s. Cloth, Cut and Colour.

Clariscia’s passion for design and the cut of good cloth came from her mother.  Her mother was born in French Guiana and as a young teenager emigrated to St Lucia where she met Clariscia’s father, George Gill.  Losing her mother from a sudden death at the age of ten was a shock but it somehow spurred Clariscia on to want to make her mum proud as she was the one who sparked Clariscia’s fashion interest. Clariscia would sit fascinated watching her mother sew.  Clariscia cherished the small hand wheel Singer Sewing machine her mother had given her as a child.

A keen eyed relief needlework teacher at school saw early on that Clariscia showed a particular talent in sewing and drawing so he made it his duty to encourage her to attend the London College of Fashion where he worked part time.

St Lucia Hot Couture Show, May 3rd-8th 2016

Saint Lucia Hot Couture

Next month, Clariscia is billed as a headlining International Fashion Designer at this years St Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival, hosted at the prestigious Sandals Grande, Design District Serenity Park, St Lucia. Gill will be joined by international sponsor, Iman Cosmetics and reality TV Star Dwight Eubanks from The Real House Wives of Atlanta (responsible for Phaedra Parks lavish and extravagant fashion parties) plus performances featuring Musical Icons: Shaggy, Marc Anthony (J-Lo) and George Benson and a host of other celebrities’ (for full line up, visit: http://stluciajazz.org)

Each designer has been awarded:

Professional Hair and Makeup provided by Iman Cosmetics, a professional team of experienced dressers, a designer bio feature in Commemorative Magazine, an introduction to the most influential buyers in the Caribbean (approximately 40 buyers ranging from local boutiques to regional and international stores), 100% Press attendance rate, with front row features by the best fashion writers from around the Caribbean and the US. From Fashion Avenue News to NYC Vogue.

The collection comprises day, evening and a bridal wear range.

The relaxed interchangeable suits and separates portray a modern look suitable to take you from the office to that evening reception.

Clariscia reveals the single most frequently requested item to be trousers of which she has developed styles to accommodate the rich variety of body shapes we all come in.

Clariscia insists each new client has a unique pants toile made first in calico in order to get the correct fit before the trousers are made in the finest plain or pinstripe wools, some available with a slight stretch for all important comfort.

CG BridalIMG_0096

Over the years, demand from clients for her to make their wedding dresses grew and it became clear that Clariscia’s designs for the modern bride who had no desire to go down the aisle looking like ‘Tinkerbelle Fairy’.

These brides wanted a more subtle elegant style, sometimes even a non-white dress, maybe something with sleeves or a shorter dress.  As a result, the first bridal range was designed, again taking into account the interchangeable aspect by including neat shrug jackets and light organza coats to go with the dresses two-pieces and even trousers for the different body shapes and personalities.

The Atelier

Discreetly housed for the past 15 years in a charming 18th century Courtyard Mews next to world Fenwicks of New Bond St, the setting of her appointment based operation provides her clientele a haven of tranquillity to retreat to and stop for a lunch time treat in one of the many high profile restaurants that surround.

It is easy to see why the clients return as Clariscia gently guides them through the motions of selecting essential pieces from her collection. Clients experience advice on dressing for the given season without compromising on their own personality and skilfully, Clariscia refuses for clients to be moulded into fashion clones.

Clariscia’s ethos is that the garments must earn their place in your wardrobe so the pieces are carefully designed in order that the wearer gets maximum looks by being able to interchange the key items.

'The Diary Of A Badman' Premieres In Jamaica And The Cayman Islands, March 30th 2016

keri diary

‘The Diary of a Badman’ won Best Narrative Feature at the recent JAMPRO Jamaica Film Festival July 2015 and will have its first theatrical release in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands on March 30th, 2016. The film will run three weeks in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.

This film gives a revitalizing outlook on the entire undercover cop movie. Such films are normally male dominated, and women generally play love interests, victims, or supporting officers with very little screen time. Women of African descent usually don’t acquire these opportunities; however with “Diary of a BadMan” it changes that status quo. This movie is Cleopatra Jones meets Donnie Brasco and much, much more.

Film Synopsis:

He was her assignment. She became his diary. Detective Simone Williams, a Jamaican immigrant to the US, dreams of working undercover on a high profile case. She finally gets her chance to go undercover in an attempt to catch a notorious drug dealer, Winston Bailey aka Bucky. She falls victim to his charming personality; compromising her assignment. Lines begin to blur as she gets in deeper. Over time, Williams develops a close bond with Bailey, and their loyalties are put to the ultimate test.

About The Cast:

The film consists of cast members mostly of Jamaican and African Americans descent. Jacinth Sutphin; actress, model, and writer who was born and raised in St. Mary, Jamaica (Richmond), who plays the lead role of a undercover detective as Simone Williams. Prior to the film she moved to the states to pursue her acting career and was very enthused to come back to her country of birth to showcase her work in the acting and film industry. Douglas A. Robbs plays the role of Winston Bailey aka “Bucky” who is the target for the undercover operation. Douglas is a Crown Heights Brooklyn native; who really loves the Jamaican culture and people as well. Michael Thor Love, plays the role of Sargent Putkowski who heads the undercover team and is excited to break into the Jamaican show business this year and to also embrace the culture and people. Other cast members include: Kyle Moore, LaTonya Grant, Levar Dawkins, Richard Bird, TJ Thomas, Kellen Wingate, Jamek Grigg, Robert Murray, and Tanya Thompson.

Based on the name; ‘Diary of A BadMan’ it would be a concern for Jamaicans and persons of African descent that this film will be projecting a bad look on them, however Diemiruaya continues to explain that ‘This is art, and there are many ways to tell a story,’ he guarantees that when you watch this movie you will be blown away because in the film you get to see the bad guy in a different light; you however may not agree with his ways of achieving his goals but you will understand and may eventually agree to his cause of actions.

About Director Diemiruaya

Diemiruaya Deniran was born and raised in London, England.  He now resides in New York City, where he has lived since 1996.  In addition to countless musical projects as a solo artist and featured in collaborative groups, he has written and produced several independent film projects, such as the web series Sexamacation, the short film Kuwsh, The Transaction, the Sci-Fi thriller Soul Remover, Reserve Notes and now Diary of a Badman. Actors and crew that have worked with him on the set have purported him as being demanding, yet extremely effective.  They have expressed his uncanny ability to bring out the best in them as well as depict a masterful interpretation of what he captures with his camera.

Additional screenings are scheduled for New York City 4/7/16 (AMC Theaters 42nd street Manhattan)

"Keri's Korner: Three Networks and Three Years of Throwbacks and New Jacks

KerisKornerVPADpromo

On April 1, 2013 the Keri’s Korner Radio Show debuted to over 6,000 listeners worldwide on New York-based F.L.O. Empire Radio, an Internet radio station. The show’s first broadcast featured ‘old school’ R&B and Hip Hop music played by a live d.j. as well as an April Fool’s Day prank phone call to Carole Brown (youngest sister of singer Bobby Brown) from her friend and the show’s host Keri D. Singleton. Keri’s Korner quickly earned a loyal fan base comprised of listeners who enjoyed the show’s light hearted humor and nostalgic music playlist.

The Keri’s Korner Radio Show commemorated its one year anniversary with a special three hour broadcast taped during a star studded party in its Monday night slot. Full Force’s Bow-Legged Lou, dancehall reggae star Rayvon, and 90’s R&B group Ex Girlfriend were among those who attended the private party which was held at the radio station’s Manhattan location.

In 2015, Fashion Avenue News were among the many guests who celebrated the radio show’s second anniversary at the elegant Aloft Hotel in Harlem. The Keri’s Korner Radio Show, which had begun syndication on Maryland-based Ripped Radio Network on Tuesdays a month prior to the event, had grown in to a show that supported a variety of artists, and important causes (namely the American Cancer Society), as well as the fashion industry.

As the popular radio show’s third year on the air arrives, its listeners have yet another network from which they can tune in. One West Radio, which is headquartered in Los Angeles, now carries the Keri’s Korner Radio Show on Wednesday nights. Celebrity guests such as Eddie Levert Sr., Easy Mo Bee, After 7, Kashif, and Total have been interviewed. Sofia Davis, Editor-In-Chief of Fashion Avenue News and Model World Magazine has co-hosted several New York Fashion Week-themed episodes of the show as well.
