The fashion industry leaders of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago have just hosted a fashion designer workshop series to encourage and fine-tune the creativity of the country’s young emerging talents.

Held on September 9, 10 and ended on November 26, 2013, the three-day workshop was organized by the Fashion Industry Development Committee (FIDC), under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Investment (MTII), in collaboration with the Trinidad and Tobago Coalition of Services Industries (TTCSI).

Around 20 local fashion houses alongside the new participants of Tobago Fashion Week and San Fernando Fashion Week participated in the event that hosted talks on topics like how to create commercially relevant fashion and how to produce fashion lines.

Other than giving an in-depth knowledge about the nitty-gritty of fashion business, the workshop series also conducted discussions on effective fashion marketing, the dynamics of the fashion life cycle, fashion promotions and fashion presentations.

Additionally, the young participating designers also showcased their collections, created during the two-month-long duration of the workshop series, to the New York-based facilitator and former senior instructor at Caribbean Academy of Fashion Design at the University of Trinidad and Tobago, Babatu Sparrow, as well as the acting chairman of Fashion Association of Trinidad and Tobago, Christopher Nathan.

The event was also attended by top local designers including Claudia Pegus, Heather Jones and Meiling, and Quweina Roberts from Ministry of Labour and Small and Micro Enterprise Development and Mario Romany from the Ministry of Trade Industry and Investment.
