Andaz 5th Avenue, a hotel inspired by New York City fashion and design, is excited to announce their newest collaboration with renowned American fashion designer Richard Chai. The celebrated CFDA award-winning designer will be working with Andaz to create chic and functional pieces to be worn by Andaz Hosts, servers and bartenders.
Andaz 5th Avenue believes that the sophisticated elegance, artful tailoring and simple lines of Richard Chai’s collections fit perfectly with the Andaz ethos of attentive yet uncomplicated service in a stylish setting; and that this collaboration is a logical progression to ensure local artisans touch every aspect of the hotel.
“We are thrilled to be working with Richard, whose high standards of simple sophistication perfectly align with our brand ethos,” says Cornelia Samara, General Manager at Andaz 5th Avenue. “We strive to make the guest experience exceptional on every level, and frequently incorporate unique, creative programs into the hotel. This is a fantastic opportunity to collaborate with an extremely talented artist and bring high-end, one-of-a kind fashion to our employees and guests.”
Richard Chai, winner of the Council of Fashion Designers of America Designer of the Year Award in 2010, has been showing at the renowned New York Fashion Week with his own label since 2004. Prior to launching his eponymous line, he worked with Marc Jacobs, Geoffrey Beene, Donna Karan and Lanvin. His popular 2008 diffusion line with Target sold out within days. Similar to Andaz 5th Avenue, Richard is known for attention to detail, muted color palettes and a local New York City yet worldly feel. Employees of Andaz 5th Avenue will share a love of Richard Chai with celebrity fans such as Blake Lively, Kate Hudson and Sarah Jessica Parker.
“As a designer, I am inspired by the culture and design that Andaz brings to the hospitality experience. I was excited to be asked by the team at Andaz to design their first high-end collaboration and I’ve been having a great time working with the staff to make sure the line fits with their respective responsibilities within the hotel,” says Richard Chai. “I look forward to meeting the challenge of creating clothing that keeps up with their active roles and reflects the spirit of the hotel.”
Andaz 5th Avenue offers attentive, uncomplicated service in a relaxed, sophisticated environment designed to accommodate guests’ personal preferences and style.
Richard Chai, a New York native, began his career in fashion at an early age with a prestigious internship at Geoffrey Beene as an undergraduate at Parsons School of Design. Upon graduation from Parsons, Chai continued his studies at the Lissa School in Paris, during which time he worked as a sketcher at Lanvin.
